For Buildings & Data Centres · Revenue assessment

Your backup power is a
revenue asset.
The grid will pay
for what you already own.

Data centers, hospitals, universities and commercial buildings have UPS batteries, backup generators, HVAC systems and on-site storage that sit idle 99% of the time. AmpVerve connects these assets to UK grid flexibility markets, unlocking new grid revenue from infrastructure you already own, with no operational disruption.

Colocation, hyperscale and enterprise data centres

Your UPS batteries already respond in milliseconds. The grid will pay for that.

Data centers are the ideal grid flexibility asset. UPS systems deliver sub-second response for frequency services. Backup generators qualify for the Capacity Market and Balancing Mechanism. Cooling loads with thermal inertia shift without affecting server temperatures. AmpVerve orchestrates all of these assets into multiple revenue streams simultaneously, with zero impact on your Tier III/IV uptime commitments.

Multi-market
revenue potential across frequency response, Capacity Market, Balancing Mechanism and DNO flexibility, stacked from the same assets
80ms
UPS battery response time, fast enough for Dynamic Containment and Dynamic Regulation frequency services that pay GBP 8-15/kW/year
£200/MWh
peak Balancing Mechanism rates available to backup generators during system stress events, turning maintenance-cost assets into revenue generators
⚑
UPS frequency response
UPS battery systems respond in under 100 milliseconds, qualifying for the highest-paying frequency response markets. AmpVerve dispatches within pre-agreed power envelopes that never compromise your backup capacity reserve.
πŸ”§
Generator Capacity Market access
Backup diesel and gas generators already sit idle 99% of the year. AmpVerve registers them for the Capacity Market (GBP 20-40/kW/year) and Balancing Mechanism (up to GBP 200/MWh), turning maintenance-cost assets into revenue sources.
❄️
Cooling load flexibility
CRAC and CRAH units have significant thermal inertia. AmpVerve pre-cools during low-price periods and reduces cooling load during peak grid stress, within safe temperature bands. Server inlet temperatures are never affected.
πŸ›‘οΈ
Tier III/IV uptime protected
All dispatch decisions respect your uptime SLA as a hard constraint. Pre-agreed power envelopes, automatic safety margins and instant override controls ensure your availability commitments are never at risk.
πŸ“Š
A proven market pattern
Hyperscale and colocation operators in Europe already monetise data centre UPS and backup assets through grid frequency and balancing services. The model is established. AmpVerve brings the same capability to operators across the UK.
Offices, retail parks and mixed-use developments

Your building's energy load is already a grid asset.

Commercial buildings combine significant HVAC loads, BMS-connected lighting and ventilation, EV charging bays and, increasingly, rooftop solar and backup generation. AmpVerve orchestrates all of these behind-the-meter assets into a single grid revenue stream. Occupant comfort is always maintained. ESG and carbon reporting is included as standard.

🌑️
HVAC load shifting
Pre-cool or pre-heat during off-peak hours using thermal inertia. AmpVerve adjusts HVAC schedules within tight comfort bands, earning from DNO flexibility tenders and wholesale price spreads while occupants notice nothing.
🏒
BMS integration, all major platforms
Integrates with Trend, Schneider EcoStruxure, Siemens Desigo, Johnson Controls Metasys and Honeywell Niagara, without replacing your existing building management infrastructure.
πŸ…ΏοΈ
Car park EV charging revenue
Commercial EV bays in car parks have predictable occupancy patterns, controlled charging windows and large combined capacity. AmpVerve orchestrates them alongside HVAC loads for maximum combined revenue.
β˜€οΈ
Rooftop solar optimisation
If your building has rooftop solar, AmpVerve optimises export timing against wholesale prices and self-consumption against grid flexibility events, extracting more value than a simple export tariff.
πŸ“‹
ESG and sustainability reporting
GRI-aligned and TCFD-compatible Scope 2 displacement reports. AmpVerve produces the energy flexibility data your sustainability team needs for annual reporting, CDP submission and GRESB real estate assessments.
NHS trusts, hospital groups and private healthcare

Clinical operations never interrupted. Revenue generated automatically.

Hospitals have some of the largest and most diverse energy assets of any building type: backup generators, CHP plant, district heating, HVAC across multiple zones, and growing EV fleets. AmpVerve orchestrates these assets for grid revenue while maintaining absolute clinical safety. Ward heating, surgical suite temperatures and critical systems are locked as hard constraints that can never be overridden by any dispatch event.

Clinical first
Ward heating, surgical suites and critical power zones are locked as hard constraints. AmpVerve never dispatches any asset that could affect patient care.
2040
NHS England net-zero direct emissions target. AmpVerve provides Scope 2 displacement data required for your trajectory reporting and annual sustainability documentation.
πŸ₯
Clinical safety as a hard constraint
Ward heating, surgical suite temperatures, hot water schedules and critical power zones are locked constraints in AmpVerve's dispatch model. These constraints are built into the architecture, not configurable settings. Clinical operations are never at risk.
πŸ”§
Backup generator revenue
Large diesel or gas standby generators on hospital campuses can be assessed for Capacity Market eligibility (GBP 20-40/kW/year). AmpVerve models the revenue opportunity from assets that currently earn nothing while costing significant sums to maintain.
🌑️
CHP and district heating
Hospital district heating networks with buffer storage can participate in DNO flexibility tenders at scales that generate hundreds of thousands of pounds per year, from infrastructure that is already running 24 hours a day.
πŸš—
Hospital EV fleet integration
As NHS trusts electrify their vehicle fleets, AmpVerve adds those assets to the same dispatch model. Fleet vehicles parked overnight at hospital depots earn from flexibility markets while keeping vehicles ready for morning shifts.
πŸ“Š
NHS net-zero trajectory reporting
Scope 2 carbon displacement figures in NHS-compatible reporting formats, supporting your annual sustainability report and NHSE net-zero programme documentation.
Universities, colleges and research campuses

Your campus infrastructure is an untapped revenue source.

Universities have diverse energy assets spread across multiple buildings: campus BESS, growing EV fleets for facilities teams, heating systems across lecture halls and accommodation blocks, and backup generation for research facilities. AmpVerve aggregates all of these assets into a unified dispatch model, earning from grid flexibility markets while respecting academic schedules, research equipment requirements and student accommodation comfort.

Campus-wide
revenue potential from a mid-to-large university campus, combining BESS, heating flexibility, EV fleet dispatch and backup generation across multiple buildings
Multi-site
aggregation across dispersed campus buildings, each with different asset types and operational constraints, managed from a single dashboard
Net-zero
carbon displacement reporting for university sustainability targets, formatted for annual environmental reporting and HESA submissions
πŸ”‹
Campus BESS orchestration
University campus battery storage systems can participate in multiple grid markets simultaneously. AmpVerve stacks frequency response, wholesale arbitrage and DNO flexibility from the same BESS asset, maximising return on your capital investment.
🌑️
Heating flexibility across buildings
Lecture halls, libraries, labs and accommodation blocks each have different heating profiles. AmpVerve models each building individually, pre-heating where thermal inertia allows and respecting research equipment requirements in sensitive areas.
πŸš—
Facilities EV fleet revenue
University facilities and estates teams are increasingly electrifying their vehicle fleets. AmpVerve adds these assets to the campus dispatch model, earning overnight flexibility revenue while keeping vehicles ready for the morning work schedule.
πŸ”§
Backup generator monetisation
Standby generators for research facilities and server rooms can be assessed for Capacity Market registration, earning contracted income from assets that currently represent a pure maintenance cost.
πŸŽ“
Academic schedule awareness
AmpVerve's dispatch model understands term-time versus vacation periods, exam schedules and event calendars. Dispatch windows adapt automatically, earning more during vacations and respecting critical teaching periods.

Why your building's backup power
is the perfect grid asset.

Leading data centre operators already monetise their backup infrastructure. Here is why every building with backup power can do the same.

πŸ–₯️ Hyperscale, Ireland
Hyperscale operators in Ireland already monetise data centre UPS battery systems through grid frequency services. UPS batteries provide sub-second response to frequency deviations, earning contracted revenue from assets that were previously a pure cost centre.
🏒 Colocation, Ireland
Large colocation providers earn grid balancing revenue from data centres across Ireland. Their backup power infrastructure participates in the grid frequency response market, demonstrating the model across multiple facilities.
⚑ The UK opportunity
NESO spends over GBP 2 billion per year on grid balancing services. Behind-the-meter assets in commercial buildings, data centres, hospitals and universities can capture a significant share of this spend, from infrastructure that already exists.
Why backup power is ideal for grid flexibility
β†’
Sub-second response
UPS batteries can respond in 80 milliseconds, qualifying for the highest-paying frequency response markets. No other asset class responds this fast.
β†’
Already maintained and tested
Your backup power assets are already maintained, tested and monitored. Grid flexibility dispatch adds revenue to assets that currently cost money to keep operational.
β†’
No impact on uptime SLAs
AmpVerve dispatches within pre-agreed power envelopes that always maintain full backup capacity. Your Tier III/IV SLAs, or any other operational commitments, are never affected.
β†’
Revenue from cost centres
Backup generators, UPS batteries and cooling systems all cost money to maintain. Grid flexibility revenue offsets or exceeds these maintenance costs, turning cost centres into profit centres.

What each grid market pays

Everything you need
to know about building flexibility.

Will grid dispatch affect my data centre uptime or building operations?
No. AmpVerve dispatches within pre-agreed power envelopes that always maintain your full backup capacity and operational requirements. Your uptime SLAs, whether Tier III, Tier IV or any other standard, are hard constraints in the dispatch model. They cannot be overridden. Your operations team retains one-click override control at all times. If a dispatch event would breach any operational constraint, it simply does not happen.
How does AmpVerve connect to my existing infrastructure?
AmpVerve integrates via standard industrial protocols: Modbus TCP for generators and BESS, BACnet for BMS systems, SNMP for UPS controllers, OCPP for EV chargers and OpenADR for demand response. We connect to your existing control systems without replacing them or requiring new hardware. Integration typically completes within two weeks.
What revenue share does AmpVerve take?
AmpVerve takes 10-15% of the revenue generated. You keep 85-90%. Revenue share applies once the pilot moves to ongoing service. Commercial terms agreed up front. If we earn nothing, you pay nothing.
How quickly can I start earning?
Integration typically takes two weeks. Market registration takes an additional two to four weeks depending on the specific markets and your DNO territory. Most facilities begin earning within 30-45 days of starting the onboarding process. The structured pilot period begins from your first market dispatch, not from contract signature.
Can my backup generators really participate in grid markets?
Yes. Backup generators are eligible for the Capacity Market (GBP 20-40/kW/year with 4 hours advance notice) and the Balancing Mechanism (up to GBP 200/MWh with rapid dispatch). These markets specifically value assets that can provide power on demand. Your generators already do this for backup purposes. AmpVerve registers them for grid markets, handles all market interactions and dispatches them only within your approved parameters.
